The Institute for Restorative Communities

Welcome

The Insitute for Restorative Communities was established in 1997 to create new conversations about how we enter into relationships at home, in schools, at work and in society.

Since that time we have established programs and trainings for schools, businesses, faith groups, couples relationships and even justice systems.

At the heart of our work is the awareness that feelings matter.  In fact it is this part of our lives that defines our choices and motivates what we do.

Our culture tends to focus on behaviors rather than the emotions that motivate them.  We believe that no lasting change (whether to intimate relationships or institutional systems) will be likely without such awareness.

With new insights into the biology of emotion and with new relational processes that incorporate them, we can often transform what isn't working in our schools, businesses,  and relationships.

In so doing we can address many of the perpetual issues facing our world.

Presentations on school violence and what teachers, counselors and administrators can do to transform school cultures are available from IRC.  These practical interventions have been proven effective in programs across the US and internationally.

Understanding the root causes of bullying and violence in our schools involves understanding the emotional nature of human motivation.  At IRC we have developed a model for increasing educator's emotional awareness along with simple tools for use in the classroom with students.  To discover more contact us at info@restorativecommunities.org
